^ I'm not part of that fandom. I'm part of the "OMG this is so well written and thought out omg. OMG the animation/art, and soundtrack is top quality, and it's acually a smart show! OMG this is so original and different then everything else, omg this is so emotional!" . But that's just me. And your not stupid for dislikeing this Monster. There's a lot of anime that's very popular that I dislike. I don't think that means I'm dumb...so neither are you  .
Really though this anime is acually very well thought out, and extremely well written. Sure it panders to the kiddies a little bit, and it has anoying fans, but what can yah do. It doesn't help that Madhouse just owns at everything they do, and gave this a great music score, and top level animation, with a gothic touch. Plus it's pretty dark, and it just grabs yah! Sure Hell Girl is the intelectual's Death Note (and much better), but something about this series is very involving. It's an emotional rollercoaster, the plot is all over the place, and the paceing is amazing (good directors I guess). It has all the power of an action, with the smarts of a detective thriller. It's amazing that this anime is almost all dialogue, very few action scenes, but feels like a very hardcore/fast paced action series. This anime keeps you on the edge of your seat, wondering what's next, worried about the character, and hopeing Light won't get caught/L will catch Light. All this while asking you the question of who is right, L or Light, and what would you do in this situation? This is crazy good.
I didn't want to like it, it always seemed stupid, but I gave in to the masses, and excepted that this anime is epic. Is it the "omg best anime ever !!11!1one!one1" no, but it's pretty damn good.

I'm buying it too! Although I wish it was being subtitled instead. L's voice actor, which is the same as in the anime, does a great job with L's voice and all, but it doesn't seem to fit right with the live action actor. I don't know...it just doesn't seem to work... In the anime, L's voice is perfect, but I just can't seem to match it up with Kenichi Matsuyama....
