Trolley Troubles (1927)
Description
+ Review this animation : Read reviews for Trolley TroublesOswald the Lucky Rabbit is getting ready to conduct his little trolley, unaware of all the troubles that awaits him and his ride.
This animated short is the second Oswald cartoon to be produced, but the first one to be released; The distributors at Universal Pictures did not approve of the first Oswald cartoon entitled "Poor Papa", the main complaint being that it wasn't funny enough. Trolley Troubles became then the first Oswald short to be released in theaters and proved to be an immediate success. Its main character Oswald became the first Disney character to be merchandized. A fallout with Universal caused however the Disney company to lose the rights over the Oswald character. The loss, although devastating, inspired Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks to create the iconic Mickey Mouse character.
The originally silent cartoon short Trolley Troubles was later re-relased November 23 1931 by the Walter Lantz Productions who added music and sound effects. It wasn't until February 2006 that the Walt Disney Company bought back ownership to the Oswald cartoon character.
