1. "The girl who overcame time and the boy who was just overcome"
After attempting to steal an enchanted jewel called Shikon no Tama, the half demon Inuyasha were sealed to a tree by a beautiful priestess named Kikyo, who sacrificed her life by doing so. With her last words she ordered that the jewel should be burned with her remains so it would never fall into evil hands again.
In Tokyo, present time, an apparently ordinary girl named Kagome lives with her family at an ancient shrine. Constantly surrounded by old, historical things and objects she never really pays any attention to her grandfather's tales and explanations, and is in fact rather disappointed when he gives her a keychain with a jewel and a mummified demon foot for her 15th birthday. Later that day, called by her little brother Souta, she ventures near an old well looking for their cat Buyo, but as she approaches it starts to emit strange lights and she get dragged into it by a centipede demon who mumbles something about the Shikon no Tama. After a struggle she manage to lose the demon with some power in her hands only. Shaken, she climbs out of the well and find her self alone in the middle of a forest. After a while she recognize a huge, sacred tree that used to be near her shrine and sees a boy sleeping on it. After discovering his ears, formed like the ones of a dog, she realized that he could not be human, but even so she couldn't resist to touch those cute, fluffy ears. Suddenly she get surrounded by an angry mob with weird (feudal) clothes and hairdos who ties her up and drags her to their poor village. There Kagome gets to talk with the old priestess Kaede (who finds Kagome remarkably similar to her older sister Kikyo who died 50 years ago) and finds out that no one there had heard about Tokyo before. During night the demon who had dragged Kagome in the well returns and starts rampaging the village demanding the Shikon no Tama. In order to protect the village Kagome runs back to the well, close followed by the demon. Kaede keeps noticing that Kagome posses some magical abilities, but doesn't seem to have the time to tell her. While dodging an attack from the demon Kagome falls in front of the sacred tree where the half demon boy Inuyasha have weaken up and mistakes Kagome for being Kikyo. In the confusion the demon attacks Kagome again and engulf the Shikon no Tama, transforming to a much stronger and more powerful demon. Inuyasha seizes the opportunity and states that he alone can stop the demon before it's too late, urging Kagome to break the seal, a magic arrow who is keeping Inuyasha pinned to the tree. Just as Kagome is getting squeezed to death by the demon she manages to release Inuyasha with her free arm. Inuyasha bursts into a diabolic laugh, quickly slashes the demon with a single "Sanko tetsuo" (soul scattering iron claw), and demands the Shikon no Tama immediately unless she too wants to get ripped apart by his claws.

2. "People who Seek the Shikon no Tama"
Inuyasha is determined to get the Shikon no Tama from Kagome even if he has to kill her (he actually doesn't see it as a problem...), but Kaede quickly casts an enchanted rosemary around his neck which violently drags Inuyasha to the ground every time Kagome says "Ossuari" (sit). Kaede tells Kagome that she is the reincarnation of Kikyo and therefore the one who should take care of the jewel, that Inuyasha wants the Shikon no Tama because he's only a half demon and that Kagome has to watch out since the jewel will attract demons as well as people with evil in their hearts. With a bag full of fruits and vegetables she received from the villagers Kagome tries to make friends with Inuyasha (with not too much luck) and wants to make him understand that she is not Kikyo so he shouldn't be mad at her for anything that might have happened between the two of them.
Two days has now gone by and Kagome misses her family. Without warning anyone she ventures back to the forest in order to hopefully find a way to get back again, but once she reach the well she gets kidnapped by a bunch of men who takes her to their leader. But once there, the leader starts to act all weird, demanding for the Shikon no Tama and waving so carelessly around with his word that he even slashes one of his own men. Just when everything seemed hopeless for Kagome Inuyasha knocks down a wall and rescue her, discovering that the leader was a corpse with it's heart carved out by a crow demon. But the flesh eating crow demon managed to escape with the Shikon no Tama, and, to make it even worse, it kidnapped a child while escaping. Since Kikyo was an excellent archer Inuyasha forced Kagome to shoot after it, but after missing several times he gave up the idea and knocked the demon into a river with his bare hands. While thanking swimming classes, Kagome jumps into the river and saves the kidnapped child from drowning, while the crow demon starts to regenerate because of the Shikon no Tama he had swollen. Quickly Kagome attaches the monster's claw from the boy's clothes to an arrow and that way manages to shoot the demon, which dies emitting strange sparkles of lights all over the sky. Later, while searching for the jewel, Inuyasha discovers a small Shikon no Tama shard.
